Grammar is just a set of rules that explain why we say things the way we do.
In learning a second language, you can pick up a degree of fluency without ever having studied any grammar. And most of the time
you will be able to get across the concepts you want to. But you will always sound a little wierd to a native speaker.
And if you need people to take you seriously when you talk, rather than being a harmless amusment, you will need to understand grammar.
